The Town of Cathlamet operates under a strong Mayor form of government with 5 Councilmembers each serving 4-year terms. Positions are staggered so that not all council members come up for election in the same year. The structure of the Mayor-Council Plan of Government is specified by the State of Washington Revised Code of Washington (RCW) Title 35.27 RCW, "Towns".
The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the Town, in charge of carrying out the policies set by the Town Council, and also chairs the council meetings. The Mayor is not a council member, but can vote in some special circumstances.
The Town Council is the legislative authority of the Town and has the power to enact laws and policies, consistent with state law, needed or desired to regulate affairs within the jurisdiction of the Town or its service areas.
Regular Council meetings are held on the (1st) first and (3rd) third Monday of each month, at 6:00 pm, in the DeBriae Meeting Room of the Fire Hall located at 255 2nd Street in Cathlamet, WA. If the meeting falls on a state holiday, the meeting shall take place the following day at the same time and place. *Please note: all meetings will be held via Zoom until further notice. Meeting ID: 789 428 4989 & Password: 418781.
Liaison positions are individually selected by the Town Council. Comments made by the liaison do not represent the opinion of the entire Town Council, Mayor or staff. We do recommend that citizens with questions contact the Councilmember (or Staff) with the liaison role they are inquiring about, as that will be the person with the most information on that subject or department.
